Questions to ask yourself:
When was the last time you took 5-10 minutes to focus on the things for which you are grateful? Iâm not just talking about the obvious/generic answers like family, friends, work, etc. Iâm talking about going deep and really focusing on specifics.
Are there people in your life that you take for granted? How often do you tell others how grateful you are for them and how much you value them?
We all live busy, hectic lives. So many voices are competing for our attention. How often do you take a step back to question: âWhat actually matters? What is most important in my life? What are the things/people I would miss most if I woke up one day and suddenly they were no longer there?â
Do you struggle to be present in meaningful moments because your energy and attention are focused elsewhere?
Big Ideas:
Be more intentional about focusing on the things and moments that matter most.
We wonât regret not getting enough sleep, watching enough TV, or missing updates on social media when we are old and gray. We will miss people that we could have spent more time with. We will miss the places that brought us the most joy. We will regret not being more present during precious moments. We will realize that the little things that always seemed to be there until they werenât, were the most important things all along.
Enjoy those things and take full advantage of those little things now. You never know how much time you have left to do so.
Actionable Advice:
Take a moment right now to focus on how grateful you are for little things that you have that some people donât and wish they did.
You have a heart that beats automatically, without thinking. You have lungs that breathe while you sleep. You have a body that moves without extreme limitation. So many people donât.
When we lose little things in life, we realize what a big deal they really were. Some people, places, things, and moments matter more than others. Take more time, energy, and resources to focus on those little things. It will have a big impact on your life.
Also another little recommendation. Watch Disney/Pixarâs new movie: âSoul.â That movie sparked this post and some helpful thoughts for me.
